Mohr clarifies, “The Huracan’s drag-to-downforce ratio is excellent due to its compact frontal area, but under Balance of Performance (BoP) rules, we often sacrifice top speed to stay competitive.”

And this is the part most people miss: the Huracan’s cornering prowess, while impressive, has been a double-edged sword. Its ability to gain lap time in corners frequently triggers negative engine adjustments under BoP, making overtaking during races a Herculean task. “Overtaking happens in the slipstream on straights, not in corners,” Mohr notes. “That’s why starting at the front is crucial for us—if we’re further back, our cornering advantage becomes irrelevant.”

Enter the Temerario, set to debut this year across multiple championships, including the DTM. Its game-changing feature? A 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, a stark departure from the Huracan’s iconic 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10. While purists may mourn the loss of that signature scream, the turbo engine is far more resilient in traffic. Mohr explains, “Naturally aspirated engines suffer in slipstreams due to the lack of ram-air effect. Turbo engines solve this, as seen with competitors like McLaren and Ferrari, whose raceability benefits from this advantage.”

The Huracan’s small airbox exacerbated this issue, receiving insufficient airflow in traffic. The Temerario, however, leverages turbocharging to deliver performance without relying solely on raw power. “This should place us in a better performance window for raceability,” Mohr adds.

But will the Temerario retain the Huracan’s strengths? Mohr assures it will. “Our car isn’t the easiest to drive, but its cornering agility and braking stability are unmatched. With the new chassis, we’ve increased stiffness, further enhancing these traits.”

Here’s where it gets even more intriguing: Lamborghini has also focused on making the Temerario more accessible to amateur drivers. The Huracan’s narrow operating window often left even seasoned pros struggling. “Fall outside that window, and you lose balance, grip, and speed,” Mohr says. The Temerario addresses this by widening the operating window and reducing sensitivity to ride height changes.
